- Five Nigerians have been asked to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) class of 2023, which will vote for the Oscars.
- These individuals include celebrity actors Richard Mofe-Damijo, Kunle Afolayan, and Jade Osiberu from Nigeria.
- The Academy has invited 398 new members for 2023, 34% of whom come from underrepresented groups, 40% of whom are women, and 52% of whom come from 50 different countries.
- The number of Academy members will increase to 10,817 if all 398 agree, with 9,375 being eligible to vote for the upcoming Oscars owing to deaths and retirement.
- They are listed as; CJ “Fiery” Obasi — director category; RMD — actor category; Shola Dada — writer category; Kunle Afolayan — writer category; Jade Osiberu — producer category.
