- After intense rains triggered flash floods and a bridge collapse in several areas of China, which resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people, rescuers were looking for scores more missing persons on Monday.
- In the middle of the night on Saturday, flash floods ripped through a hamlet in the southwest province of Sichuan; rescuers reported 10 fatalities and 29 missing persons.
- The river that passes through the Hanyuan County hamlet of Xinhua grew over several days of intense rain. According to the local media, the flood destroyed 40 buildings along the riverbed, broke bridges, and blocked off highways.
- Part of a highway bridge collapsed late Friday in northwest Shaanxi province, sending cars into a raging river. As of Monday, official television CCTV said that at least 15 deaths had been confirmed.
- A portion of the bridge broke and bent at nearly a 90-degree angle into the flowing brown water below, as shown in a picture made public by China’s Xinhua news agency.
- Twenty automobiles and thirty persons were reported missing by rescuers on Saturday.
- The collapse prompted more concerns about the security of China’s built-in road and bridge infrastructure.
