- The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has chosen Dr. Abraham N.O Kwakye as its next moderator. At the PCG’s 23rd General Assembly in Abetifi Kwahu, Ghana, the appointment was made. In November 30, 2023, Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O.Y. Mante, the present moderator’s tenure will come to an end and will be replaced by Dr. Abraham Kwakye.
- At the PCG’s 23rd General Assembly, which was held at Abetifi Kwahu, the election was held. Rev. Seth Kissi, Rev. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, and Rev. Amfo Akonnor, the top three contenders, withdrew from the second round of voting. Kwakye was elected moderator after receiving 220 Yes votes and 6 No votes following the withdrawal of the latter.
- As the PCG’s spiritual leader, the moderator is in charge of the whole congregation. He preside over General Assembly sessions, emergency meetings, and General Assembly Council gatherings while advocating for the church’s contributions.
- Kawakye has a varied educational background; from 1991 to 1993, she worked as a teacher at the Presbyterian Junior Secondary School. He was ordained in 1999 at Odumase Krobo after being commissioned into the Holy Ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1997 at Kaneshie.
- He has also worked for the Presbyterian Church in Ghana (PCG) in a number of roles, including those of youth coordinator, assistant national secretary, national chaplain, member of the PCG youth education committee, lecturer, ga presbytery bible school recorder, and general assembly.
- Rev. Dr. Kwakye acknowledged his appreciation and humility for being elected, and he urged PCG members to work together and in harmony. He also assured his fellow clergy members of his commitment to the work of the church.
