- The European Commission declared on Friday that as of September 1, 2024, limits on liquids in hand baggage would be reinstated at airports inside the European Union.
- All aerosols, gels, pastes, and liquids must weigh less than 100 milliliters and be packaged in a transparent plastic bag in order to pass through airport security at any airport in the European Union.
- With this move, airports that had recently loosened their prohibitions on liquids and deployed C3 scanning technology for hand bags have reversed their previous actions.
- The new rules will be implemented consistently in all EU airports, even those that use Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB), which up until now permitted passengers to bring liquids larger than 100 milliliters.
- Apart from the limitations on liquids, the Commission delineated protocols for cabin baggage:
- Maximum weight of 10 kilogram
- Permission: One cabin bag and one little personal item
- Size restrictions: Personal goods should not be larger than 40 x 30 x 15 cm, and cabin bag dimensions (with handles and wheels) cannot exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm.
- A purse, backpack, or laptop bag, for example, cannot fit beneath the passenger’s seat in front of them.
