- Five suspects who were detained by the police for allegedly taking part in the killing of two police officers at Block Factory, an Accra suburb in East Trasacco, have been placed under remand by the Achimota District Court. The sad occurrence occurred while the two police officers, Lance Corporal Tasiga Ngapun, also known as Isaac, and Constable Benjamin Tindam, were sitting in front of their home while not on duty.
- The defendants are 46-year-old public employee Mohammed Alhassan, 54-year-old foreman Ginkor Abdulai Alhassan, 36-year-old gardener Alex Apoh, 27-year-old factory worker Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, and 25-year-old football player Ganu Iddirsu.
- They are accused of two charges of murder as well as conspiracy to commit murder. Their appeals were rejected by the Prince Osei Owusu-presiding court.
- They could obstruct police investigations, therefore the prosecution—headed by Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi—asked the court to place them in lawful detention. According to the Prosecution, because of the nature of the crime and punishment, if granted bail, the accused would not appear to stand trial.
- The prosecution alleged that on May 2, 2024, at around 1830 hours, the accused planned with others at large to murder the two officers who were off duty and seated in front of their private residence at HAKSE Block Factory in East Trassaco, East Legon, Accra.
- The defense attorney, Noble Adedawonu, requested bail on his client’s behalf on the grounds that the charge sheet misrepresented the facts. When granted bail, the attorney stated that his clients were prepared to face trial and establish their innocence.
- The court, after hearing arguments of the prosecution and the defence counsel, adjourned the matter to May 20, 2024.
