- Following a victory over the Central African Republic (CAR), Ghana’s Black Stars earned a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey were not present for the game, which was played at Baba Yara Stadium, thus Jordan Ayew served as captain. Despite being outplayed by the Wild Beasts, Ghana maintained calm to score in the 25th minute. In the 43rd minute, Mohammed Kudus of West Ham United took down Inaki Williams on the outside of the box.
- After the break, both teams got off to a good start, but the Central African Republic soon took control and put Ghana’s goalpost in danger. Osman Bukari was replaced by Ernest Nuamah in the 62nd minute, but the Black Stars struggled to maintain possession of the ball and failed to pose a danger to the defense of the opposition. In the 66th minute, Baba Rahman was replaced by Gideon Mensah, while AFC Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo also entered the game.
- The 81st minute saw CAR come close to scoring, but the final few minutes saw Ghana threaten the goalpost. In the 88th minute, Nuamah scored in the 18-yard area to make it 2-1 thanks to pressure from Semenyo and a cross from him. In the additional time, Antoine Semenyo also hit the post.
- Ghana finished second in their group with 12 points, and they will compete in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast the following year. On October 12, 2023, they will learn who their tournament group opponents are. Next year in Abidjan, Ghana will attempt to snap a 41-year trophy drought at the AFCON.
