During a podcast episode hosted by Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda Maday, Whoopi Goldberg came out as a lesbian. The star, who is 37, told Raven that she adored her because she reminded her of a lesbian. Maday, who from June 2015 to October 2016 co-hosted The View with Goldberg, said she enjoyed seeing individuals live their truths and be open about their sexuality.
Goldberg explained that although she is not a lesbian and has played lesbians on television, she has long been the subject of rumors about her sexual orientation. She also talked openly about setting limits with her LGBTQ+ friends and how, since lesbians are just her friends, she has had them in her life forever.
Raven praised Goldberg’s ability to embody both masculine and feminine characteristics, remarking that there is something lovely about a woman embracing both qualities at once and wearing it so stylishly. She argues that Goldberg is a human being who lives in a body and is neither one nor the other; their sexual orientation is unrelated.
Goldberg has three marriages, the first to actor Lyle Trachtenberg in 1994, the second to David Claessen from 1986 to 1988, and the third to Alvin Martin in 1973. The next year, they were divorced.
