- On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, appeared before the committee of parliament investigating the leaked tape on an alleged plot to remove him by some senior police officers.
- The IGP recused himself from all decisions regarding the officers caught on the leaked tape plotting his removal. He said he had delegated the matter to the Police Council and the Police Intelligence Directorate to handle it professionally and impartially.
- The IGP said that the allegations against him were wild and baseless, and that they caused him severe pain and negatively affected his reputation, his family, the police leadership, and the entire police service. He said he was innocent and focused on his job of keeping the country safe. He also denied having any contract with Bugri Naabu or holding any secret meetings with former President Mahama. He said he had a cordial relationship with all heads of security agencies and respected the institutions of the state and the President.
- The IGP also highlighted some of his achievements since he assumed office as the Acting IGP on August 1, 2021 and was confirmed as the substantive IGP on December 13, 2021 . He said he had introduced several reforms and innovations in the police service, such as launching the Horse Patrol Operations, introducing Police Shuttle Services, interdicting four policemen who brutalized residents of Tamale, deploying Dog Patrol Teams, establishing a Police Intelligence Directorate, and setting up a Police Welfare Fund.
- He said he had restored the integrity and trust of the police service by ensuring that all persons are treated equally before the law, regardless of their political or social status. He said he had also arrested some influential persons for breaking traffic laws or electoral malpractices . He said he had improved the public image and relations of the police service by engaging more with the ordinary Ghanaian, visiting crime scenes, speaking to angry youth, and interacting with school children .
- The IGP thanked the committee for giving him the opportunity to clear his name and defend his reputation. He said he was ready to cooperate with any further investigations or inquiries into the matter. He also thanked the President, the Police Council, his colleagues in the police service, and the general public for their support and confidence in him. He said he was committed to serving Ghana with honesty, professionalism, and dedication.
