- According to local media, the South African presidency is looking into claims that President Cyril Ramaphosa used the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT to write portions of his address last week.
- It comes after allegations on the internet that the president’s speechwriters did not draft a portion of the speech he gave last week at an education event.
- This was refuted by the president’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, who stated that AI techniques are not used for speech content.
- He said that they were looking into the source of the text and that the department of education wrote portions of the speech for the president’s office.
- The South African news site cited Mr. Magwenya as adding, “The use of AI to produce speeches or any other material is unacceptable, and action will be taken should these reports prove to be correct.”
