- The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has nominated himself to be the party’s running mate to the Council of Elders. Article 45 of the NDC Constitution was followed throughout the nomination process, according to Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the general secretary of the party. To discuss the nomination, the party’s Council of Elders will convene on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. That same day, at 3 p.m., the National Executive Committee will meet to continue discussing the nomination. Kwetey conveyed trust in the selected running mate, saying they would support Mahama’s goals and put up endless effort to bring about positive change and advancement for the nation.
- The leading candidates for the NDC running mate post include economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, former chief of staff to Mahama, retired police commissioner Nathan Kofi Boakye, member of parliament for Asunafo Eric Opoku, and former minister of education Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
