- At a Worcester, Massachusetts home where two people were shot, a mother and son (Obed O. Boateng and Philomena Boateng) sought restraining orders, which sparked a 13-hour standoff between police and Caleb Y. Boateng, 24.
- According to court documents that the Telegram was able to get, Caleb’s mother and brother both requested restraining orders against him last week.
- The orders, according to court records, were imposed because there was “a substantial likelihood of immediate danger of abuse.” In the filings, it was also claimed that the defendant had put the plaintiffs “in fear of imminent physical harm” and “physical harm” on or around specific dates.
- The media outlet noted that the standoff took place at 51 Colby Avenue and noted that all three parties have addresses for the residence listed in court records. The names of the perpetrators and victims who were engaged in the shooting and standoff on July 7 have not been made public by the police.
- Authorities arrived at 51 Colby Ave. Friday at 8:38 a.m., where they claimed a man barricaded himself after shooting two of his family members, injuring them, and firing at authorities. Police reported that no policemen were injured, and that the family members’ wounds were not thought to be life-threatening.
- According to Lt. Sean Murtha of MassLive, the man was being communicated with by hostage negotiators and a mental health professional who had been called to the location.
- According to a Friday post on the department’s Facebook page, Worcester, police blocked off Colby Avenue and the neighborhood around it and warned residents not to enter.
- After firing at them, Caleb Boateng was shot in the shoulder and taken into custody by police. He is still in the hospital and might be charged on Tuesday.
- On behalf of the mother and brother, urgent abuse prevention orders were issued; they wore out on Monday. A judge prolonged the restrictions due to a high likelihood of abuse occurring immediately through July 19.
- Caleb was also instructed to turn up all firearms.
