- At the Tema Port on Monday, January 29, 2024, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized many tramadol capsules and tables.
- A total of One million and Thirty-Five Thousand (1,035,000) tablets and capsules of tramadol with a net weight of Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty-Four point thirty-eight kilogrammes (4,734.38kg).
- The types of tramadol tablets and capsules that were found to be available included five thousand (5,000) Royal tablets, which equate to fifty-one (51) cartons weighing 225 mg, six thousand Timaking capsules, which equate to ninety (90) cartons weighing 120 mg, and six thousand Trafradol capsules, which equate to forty (40) cartons weighing 120 mg.
- The task was a component of the Commission’s mandate concerning the inspections of containers carried out at the Tema Port.
- The seized cargo has been taken into custody by the Commission, and it is currently being transferred to the Food and Drug Authority for additional inquiries.
- In a statement, NACOC reassured the public that it is dedicated to reducing the threat posed by drug trafficking.
- “The Commission would like to use this medium to remind the general public that possessing and transporting illicit drugs without lawful authorization from a legally mandated outfit is illegal and punishable under sections 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020,” the statement added.
