- The kidnapping of a few passengers near Nde 3 Corners by Akparabong Junction in the state’s Ikom Local Government Area has been verified by the Cross River State Police Command.
- Three of the passengers, who were in transit, were reportedly injured when gunmen attacked them and fired at their cars, taking an undetermined number of them away. SP Irene Ugbo, a spokesman for the command, confirmed the attack but refrained from providing specifics, stating that it happened on Sunday.
- According to Ugbo, efforts are being made to secure the release of the kidnapped passengers and guarantee that the occurrence won’t happen again in the area. James Ese, a community member, told NAN that the three injured people were sent to an unnamed hospital right away to receive treatment.
- While alleging herdsmen to be responsible for the almost daily attack on the road, he called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities.
- “We want the police to rise to the challenge and end this menace to passengers in the last three weeks. This particular area of the Nde 3 Corners by Akparabong Junction has become a bloodbath spot owing to kidnapping activities with over four deaths, including a baby, recorded these past weeks,” he said.
