- According to the most recent statistics, Russia currently has over 500,000 soldiers fighting on the front lines of the “bleak” conflict with Ukraine. This number greatly exceeds that of the Ukrainian military, who are also facing a shortage of ammunition as they await outside assistance.
- Dr Jack Watling from The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) said: “The Russian forces have now expanded to 510,000 troops. The outlook for Ukraine is bleak. Its allies must replenish stockpiles.”
- This occurs as Russian forces carry on their attack in eastern Ukraine with the goal of capturing additional ground in anticipation of an impending summer onslaught. Right now, they’re attempting to take control of Kharvik, the second-biggest city in Ukraine, which Defense Secretary Grant Shapps claimed had “caught the West napping”.
- Vladimir Putin’s forces have also been targeting areas in the northeast of Ukraine, specifically the town of Vovchansk, in a ground offensive that opened a new front and put more pressure on overstretched Ukrainian forces.
- Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the most notable border incursion has been the resumed northeast offensive, which was started late last week. According to two open source monitoring analysts, Moscow has taken control of between 38 and 47 square miles in just two days, which includes at least seven settlements, the majority of which have already been cleared of people.
