- Sudan defeated Ghana 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon, increasing their prospects of making it to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
- The Sudanese team, coached by former Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah, outperformed the Black Stars to earn a vital victory in the game, which took place at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
- With just one loss in their last eight competitive games, the Jediane Falcons maintained their excellent play. Both teams put on a lackluster first half, but Ghana’s goalie Lawrence Ati-Zigi produced vital saves to keep his team in the match.
- After a quick counterattack, Ati-Zigi stopped Sudanese scorer Mohamed Abdelrahman after just ten minutes. He saved Ghana once again as he stopped Abobaker Mamoun Eisa’s low drive.
- The second half was a reward for Sudan’s perseverance. Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Tash broke the tie in the 62nd minute by taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble to give Sudan the lead. Just three minutes later, Abdelrahman doubled the lead, receiving a pass from Ahmed Yousif and skillfully beating Ghana’s defender Mohammed Salisu and Ati-Zigi.
- Sudan moved up to 7 points with this crucial victory, trailing group leaders Angola by just two points. Ghana, however, has only two points from four games and is still winless, with their chances of qualifying dwindling.
