- In the North Tongu District, VRA built a bypass route that runs from the St. Kizito Safe Haven route to the Battor-Mepe road. This is a prompt response to the main road that leads to the sanctuary at St. Kizito school being flooded.
- The inhabitants of Mepe will be able to receive supplies, medicines, and assistance thanks to this route. The road will also deter travelers from using boats or canoes to cross flooded areas, lowering the risk of contracting infections transmitted by the water.
- In addition to funding relief organizations like NADMO and the Ghana Health Service, VRA is also making its technical resources available, as evidenced by this road work. The goal of VRA is to improve the living conditions of those who live in safe havens, particularly Mepe.
- The VRA’s emergency preparedness plan outlines all the protocols and procedures to be followed in the event of a spill, but since a spill of this size hasn’t been attempted in many years, VRA is constantly on alert to fill any gaps or address any issues as the controlled spill goes on. The North Tongu District’s District Chief Executive, Hon. Divine Osborne Fenu, thanked VRA for their prompt reaction.
- On Saturday, October 21, 2023, after speaking with the North Tongu DCE, VRA Chief Executive, Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, traveled to Mepe to oversee the distribution of supplies and medications for the day and to reassure the locals of VRA’s commitment to ensuring their comfort.
He stated:
‘We have been with you from the first day of the spill, we are always talking to NADMO, the military , Ghana Health Service, your chiefs and your DCEs on how we can continue to help, and our own people are always here to deliver your items and check on you, please let us know whatever you need, don’t worry, we will be with you till the very end’
- In total, it is estimated that VRA has spent over 50% of its 20 million Ghana Cedis budget on relief items such as over 40 portable toilets, 150,000 bags of sachet water, 6,000 bags of maize, 7,000 diapers,3,000 packs of sanitary towels,5,000 mosquito nets,10,000 pieces of toilet rolls, 100 cartons of baby food and many other consumables have been provided.
